Other things to do:
In addition to completing these forms, there are several other things you'll need to do before leaving:
-
Order/renew your passport - Passports take approximately 6 weeks to process.
Visit the Passport Services
website for fee information and application forms.
-
Apply for a visa (if necessary) - A visa is issued by the government of the country
you are visiting, and regulates your entry and exit to and from that country.
To determine if you need a visa, please consult your program materials or visit your
Country's Embassy for student visa information.
-
Review your program's dates - Occasionally, program dates are changed. Check with the
sponsor of your program and review your formal acceptance materials to confirm the
start and end dates.
-
Book your plane ticket - Please do this only after you've been officially
accepted with a letter directly from your host university.
- Complete Blackboard Course - (CWU students only) Online Blackboard course must be completed prior to pre-departure orientation. Find instructions for summer here and instructions for fall here.
.
- Attend pre-departure orientation (CWU students only; all others are welcome
but not required to attend) - Orientation dates and details will be mailed to you.
-
Credit Transfer Agreement
(CWU students only-optional) - Completing this form allows you to substitute classes
abroad for CWU's major, minor, and general education requirements (subject to
departmental approval). This form can be completed before or after your exchange, but
for academic planning purposes it is helpful to complete it in advance. Please see
the form for detailed instructions.
-
Pay any fees/deposits - Check your program materials or ask your advisor to learn
when your fees are due. Many students must pay a $300 deposit upon acceptance to
the program. For further explanation of program-specific fees, please see the
What does it cost? page.
-
Research vaccinations and health needs - For traveler's health information,
including vaccinations, please visit
http://www.cdc.gov/travel/. We also recommend
that students with preexisting conditions, prescriptions, or special needs consult
with their physicians, site directors, and/or advisors about how to accommodate these
needs abroad.
