CWU Ewha Womans University, Korea - Academic Year Programs

Location Picture of the Gyeongbokgung Palace

Ewha Womans University is located in the Shinchon area of Seoul, about 15 minutes by subway from downtown Seoul, the capital and heart of the Republic of Korea. Seoul is the financial, political, commercial, recreational, educational and cultural center of Korea, home to major corporations, banks, government offices, leading schools and universities, theaters and restaurants. From the moment of arrival on campus, one discovers what it means to enjoy the beautiful Ewha campus, and the vibrant larger community of both Shinchon and Seoul.

University Profile: Ewha Womans University

Founded in 1886, Ewha Womans University was the first Christian educational institute for women in Korea. Despite the name, international programs are open to male students as well. The University has played a major role in the advancement of women in Korean society. Ewha is committed to specializing and carrying out world-class research in Korean culture, languages, life sciences, information and communication, art and design, international relations and area studies. Ewha offers 68 majors in 14 colleges. In addition to the graduate school, there are 3 professional graduate programs and 10 special graduate programs, which offer master's programs in 50 fields, and doctoral programs in 45. Total enrollment: over 21,000 students as of Spring 2004 (16,000 undergraduates).

In the university’s name, "womans' " represents the university's foundation with just one student; it further symbolizes its high respect for the individuality of women. Therefore Ewha is not a ' "Womens’ " university but "Womans'", keeping each woman's distinctive being intact in its name.
