It has a population of about four million. The city is not as big as Seoul, the capital of Korea, but offers many of the same kinds of excitement and experiences. Busan also offers beautiful surroundings. Not only does it have Korea's best beaches, but also accessible and affordable sea excursions, mountain hiking, and some of the world's finest hot springs for bathing. With regard to transportation, the city offers excellent air, ferry, bus and railway service, all of which will take you to whichever major cities you wish to visit within a matter of hours. It is close to Kyongju, the ancient capital of the Shilla Dynasty/Kingdom for a thousand years. The old capital is famous for its abundant cultural artifacts and heritage. The Korean national treasures included on the World Heritage List of UNESCO are the eighth century Pulguksa Temple and the affiliated artificial stone grotto of Sokkuram in Kyongju and the 13th century Tripitaka Koreana scrolls preserved at Haeinsa Temple in the vicinity of Hapchon. University Profile: Pukyong National University Pukyong University was formed after the combining of two other universities in 1996, the National Fisheries University of Pusan and Pusan National University of Technology. The name PuKyong comes from the two initial syllables of Pu san Metropolitan City and Kyongsang Province where the university is located. The university now has six Colleges, sixteen Divisions, nine combined departments with a total enrollment of over 23,000 students. The university’s current focus is on the internationalization of academic courses, research activities and facilities. The visible outcomes of this policy include the international double degree program, exchange programs for faculty and students, joint research activities and a Korean studies program focusing on the areas of language and culture.

Classes Offered
Students accepted for PKNU Student Exchange Program will be registered in the undergraduate program as a visiting student. They may take 2 to 3 classes per day from Monday through Friday, totaling to 21 (at least 15) classes per week. Each class, consists of a 50-minute period per week for 15 weeks and is worth 1 credit. For example, 3 credits are awarded after completing of 45 hours of lectures during the semester. For a list of Korean language classes, please click here. Dormitories are available on both campuses of Pukyong University, and give students a chance to live at a reasonable price in a comfortable, secure environment. The dorms have shower areas, study areas, a launderette, a table tennis room, a computer room, and lounge areas. Each room is fully furnished, but students bring their own bedding and towels. Pay phones are available nearby for local and long distance calls; there are no phones in individual rooms. There are no cooking facilities, but a student dining hall restaurants are available. If you plan to seek off-campus housing, please arrive well before classes start. Private boarding houses or "self-boarding" accommodations are available near the university, and can be found by students independently. (Pukyong University does not assist with off-campus housing.) Pukyong's Office of International Relations can pick you up at the airport if you make prior arrangements with them. In addition to academic strength, acceptance is based on personal commitment, flexibility, and suitability for study abroad/exchange. 'Current disciplinary record' is defined as an infraction within the last 12 months. How to Apply Before you begin your application, we highly recommend that you see a study abroad advisor to ensure that you have all the information you need about program logistics and eligibility.
